My Magical Girl Library

It’s no secret that I’ve been on the hunt for magical girl manga series since February of last year.  Since I’ll be textually analyzing such a series for my thesis, I thought it would be best to look into several series, since each of them have their own distinct styles and flavors.  While they may all share the same plot, they don’t always do things the same way, and that includes the shojo ones.

But of course, you know it’s just a matter of time before the classic “for research” reason devolves into the standard “GOTTA COLLECT ‘EM ALL” song-and-dance.  This is especially true for me since purchasing my tablet earlier this month – it’s been a joy being able to read a ton of series on my tablet, especially while dropping off my son in the morning and heading back to school.  It means I’m never bored during the crowded commute.

This is totally me on the bus (in the case of a tablet, just pretend I’m swiping)

While I’m no where near “massive lending library” levels, I’m pretty proud of my collection and I’m looking forward to growing it more this year.  I’m sort of in a holding pattern since my bookcase is already stuffed to the brim with textbooks and my son’s book collection; when we move this year, I’m plan to buy another bookcase specifically for my stuff.  In the meantime, this my current collection as of now (but know that I will pretty much have to update in the future):

Part Three: Future Purchases

  • Revolutionary Girl Utena – Japanese Full Set (I’m gonna buy this at the end of the week, actually)
  • Magical Girl Raising Project (I will be getting the original light novel as well as the English version when it’s released later this year)
  • Cutey Honey a Go Go – It’s coming out in September and I must have it.
  • Kill la Kill – because it’s a damn shame that I haven’t purchased it already
  • Sailor Moon Stories – because they are adorable
  • Magical Girl Special Ops Asuka – a magical girl with PTSD?  Hmm, this should be interesting!
  • Strike Witches – I’m still on the fence about this one.

So, what do you think?  Are there any series that you’d recommend (English or Japanese)?  I look forward to reading your responses!  Now, back to manga collecting!
