This Week in Magical Girls – Dec.4-10

Not a lot happened this week, but that’s not to say nothing good happened in the world of magical girls.  When it comes to letting your henshin wand fly, I find that it’s either feast or famine when it comes to the anime schedule.  Luckily for us, though Magical Girl Raising Project ends next week, we have the new Little Witch Academia series to look forward to in January.  Of course, it would be so much better if I happened to be in Japan next month as well, since the CardCaptor Sakura movie is being released next month.  Ah well, this thesis isn’t going to write itself…

  • I finally bought and read Zodiac Starforce, a western interpretation of the magical girl narrative by Kevin Panetta and Paulina Ganucheau.  The verdict – IT’S AWESOME.  It’s a fresh take and it really toes the line between fighting for duty and fighting to save the ones you love.  Definitely give it a read!
  • Shojo Beat – best their loving hearts – is releasing a box set of the Revolutionary Girl Utena manga (Shojo Kakumei Utena).  The set will not only include all the volumes of the manga, but also a poster and illustrations.  The manga was originally released in English over ten years ago and, before this announcement, was tricky to find.  I have already pre-ordered my set – I refuse to miss out!  The boxed set is set to drop on February 28 of next year.

And that is your weekly dish on everything magical girl this week.  I’ll be back with more next week – hopefully on Thursday, when I normally post.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go and play in the snow. Have a good week everyone!
